There's no way what EZ-Pass is doing is legal. I know we're getting a new comptroller, but this is insane. ![]() As far as I know, they're still paying it off.Īnd there's so, so much more, like when EZ-Pass was double charging people for autopay, or that one man who just got his bill right before Thanksgiving and was told to pay it before the 30th (thankfully they extended the deadline). They couldn't afford that (who can?), so EZ-Pass began garnishing her wages. My coworker submitted the payment (it was 1.5 or 2k, I think), but EZ-Pass canceled the payment later and when she called back, they told her they couldn't offer her the same deal as before, so she would have to pay the full 7k. EZ-Pass said that if they paid the full amount for the tolls (and not the additional fees) that day that they'd waive the fees. I guess the autopay stopped or something because they got a huge bill in the mail for over $7k (this was just before the civil penalty fee waiver went into effect, so they had to pay everything) a year and a half later. My coworker's husband used his a lot because he had to travel for work. I was thankfully able to get help from my family to pay it off in time (no sympathy from EZ Pass when I said I couldn't pay, either.). They said they were sorry, but I had to pay the $750 within the next month or it wouldn't qualify for the fee waiver, and I know they have absurd late fees. When I called EZ-Pass to get some of it waived, because I was charged the video toll rate even though I had a registered transponder in my car's dash, they told me that the transponder had never been registered (which isn't true because it used to work before) and that they couldn't do anything about the fees, even though it was a mistake on their part and that they had taken so long to notify me. I got almost 200 pages in the mail earlier this year full of tolls that had been charged to my account over a year ago. I've seen, heard (personally and through the news), and experienced EZ-Pass's failings to notify customers when tolls are due. ![]()
